Sprig + Fern Awes At Australian Awards, Again

Sprig and Fern's award winning beers from the Australian International Beer Competition

Only weeks after claiming four medals in a major Melbourne-based beer competition, Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. is celebrating another set of victories from Victoria, claiming New Zealand Brewery of the Year alongside six medals at the Melbourne International Beer Competition.

The big win of New Zealand Brewery of the Year came as a total surprise to the Tasman-based team – and was initially missed when poring over the results.

Daniel Tipping, Marketing + Communications Executive at Sprig + Fern Brewing Co., said:

“Yeah, that’s my bad. I took a thorough look at the medal wins online when they first went up, and was stoked to see us feature a few times, but totally missed the win for the Brewery until I was sent (and looked through) the certificates. It was a bloody nice surprise though!”

For the part of the beers, The G.O.A.T Doppelbock was Sprig + Fern’s biggest winner, claiming another gold medal – the fourth gold, and thirteenth medal overall for the Brewery’s most acclaimed beer. Other wins included a silver medal for Norty Porter and a bronze for Best Bitter.

All three of these beers have enjoyed other wins this year, including at the New World Beer and Cider Awards and Melbourne Royal Australian International Beer Awards.

Pleasingly, Sprig + Fern’s Grown Up Lemonade series also claimed a set of medals. These included silver medals for Grown Up Lemonade and Grown Up Lemonade + Mixed Berry, and a bronze for Grown Up Lemonade + Mango. The Melbourne International Beer Competition is somewhat unique in allowing submissions in the category of seltzers, which is where the Grown Up Lemonade series shone.

Tracy Banner, Owner and Master Brewer at Sprig + Fern Brewing Co., said:

“Of course we’re absolutely delighted to see The G.O.A.T, Norty Porter and Best Bitter recognised once again, but to have all three products in our Grown Up Lemonade series also recognised is huge for us.

“Grown Up Lemonade has been a popular option for a long time now, and the two newcomers – Mango and Mixed Berry – have already made a splash. We know these will be incredibly popular as we head towards summer, and hopefully these wins give customers an extra incentive to try them!”

The Melbourne International Beer Competition was judged in early July by a judging panel made up of buyers, sommeliers, distributors and importers from Australia and the greater Asia Pacific Region.
