Tracy Banner heads the small and enthusiastic Sprig & Fern Brewery Team that are based at the Beach Road, Richmond premises about 10 minutes from Nelson City.
Every batch is hand-brewed with a level of care and attention to quality that has earned us a solid reputation amongst real craft beer drinkers throughout New Zealand.
Collectively the brewing team has nearly sixty years brewing experience with all brewers having had life experiences in other breweries around the world. Tracy and senior brewer Callum are ably assisted in the Brewing Team by Alex and Briar.
Callum is a sixth-generation brewer from the Duncan family and Alex has been with Tracy’s team for three years.
Our Brewing Philosophy
In brewing, as in many things in life – what you put in affects what comes out. Our brewing philosophy is simple: we use quality ingredients and work very hard to ensure quality and consistency.
We source our hops from all over the world and cider apples locally, and our malts from suppliers in both the North and South Islands. We brew as stylistically correct as we can, therefore our specialty malts that provide the colour and flavour for some of our different beer styles are sourced from South Canterbury, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA. We use the local town supply water, which is extremely good quality for beer and cider production.
Our beers and ciders are produced using all-natural ingredients and are unpasteurised to retain their full flavour. We encourage you to keep it well-refrigerated to maintain quality and freshness.
