Two Sprig + Fern Taverns are vying for the title of the top gastropub in the country.

The Top 50 Gastropub competition, now in its second year, has collated all entries and moved to the public voting phase. Ninety-one venues across New Zealand are up for consideration in the competition, separated in to the four regional categories of Upper North Island, Lower North Island, Upper South Island and Lower South Island.

Two Sprig + Fern Taverns have entered; Sprig + Fern Tawa in the Lower North Island, and Sprig + Fern Tahuna in the Upper South Island. Sprig + Fern Tahuna made the Top 50 Gastropubs list in 2024.

The public vote to help form the Top 50 list is open until January 31, 2025. Those wishing to cast a vote can do so at the Top 50 Gastropubs website.

The Top 50 Gastropubs will be announced on February 3, with a panel of hospitality industry judges then visiting the venues to determine the four regional winners. The country’s top venues will then be announced at an awards evening on March 26 at Fantail & Turtle in Auckland.
